Day twenty-seven: five clear minutes

On 1 August, Trudy spoke with her son again: clear-minded, oriented and calm. For the first time, she relayed what she has been told about the basis for her stay — a diagnosis the family has never seen in any document.

This is a factual account of 1 August 2026, twenty-seven days after the involuntary admission. These are facts, not opinions. Readers can form their own judgement.

Telephone contact

On 1 August, her son spoke with Trudy by telephone, within the applicable contact arrangements. The call lasted about five minutes.

His observations during this call:

  • She sounded clear-minded and sharp, followed the conversation with ease and was fully oriented in her surroundings.
  • She was calm and composed — and, notably given her severe COPD: her breathing sounded steady, without the shortness of breath that at times used to mark her speech.
  • She herself pointed out to her son that the call was, in accordance with the applicable arrangements, being listened in on, and chose her words with that in mind.
  • She spoke about the telephone calls from friends and neighbours that had reached her in recent days — consistent with what those visitors and callers had themselves already reported back to the family.
  • Her request to her son was unchanged and stated once again: keep doing, on the outside, everything needed to bring about her return home.

The call ended warmly.

What she has been told about the basis for her stay

During the call, Trudy relayed that she has been given to understand that a diagnosis of “dementia / Alzheimer’s” forms the basis for her continued stay in the closed facility.

For factual context, as previously recorded on this site: the detention order and the medical statement have — despite repeated requests — never been provided to Trudy or the family. No one in her immediate circle has seen any document in which this or any other diagnosis is recorded or substantiated. The two regular caregivers who visited her for two hours on 27 July are currently recording their observations — clear-minded, oriented, in good condition — in signed statements. This account itself has documented, day by day since 6 July, the conversations she holds.

As always: this is an account of what Trudy herself has said, and of what the family has and has not received. The medical and legal assessment is a matter for the qualified professionals and, ultimately, for the court.

The goal of Trudy’s family and community is unchanged: her return home — at her own repeated and clearly expressed request. No names are mentioned in this account and no conclusions are drawn. This post will be updated as more becomes known.
